Why is Rosh Hashanah called the Day of Judgment? If this is the anniversary of the day when the world was first created, why do we mark it with fervent prayer rather than celebration and rejoicing?

Rosh Hashanah is similar to a coronation day. On this day, we accept G-d's sovereignty over every aspect of our lives. We mark the act of acknowledging G-d's sovereignty with the blast of the shofar (ram's horn).

Why does the Day of Judgment, Rosh Hashanah, come before the Day of Forgiveness, Yom Kippur? Wouldn’t it be better to come before the Heavenly Tribunal after our sins have been forgiven on Yom Kippur?
